Interreligious Meeting on 60th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate


A Historic Document
Promulgated in 1965, Nostra Aetate marked a turning point in Catholic teaching, affirming respect and dialogue with Judaism, Islam, and other world religions. Sixty years later, its message remains vital amid global challenges and opportunities for cooperation.
Program Highlights
The conference opened with greetings from Dr. Yehuda Stolov of the Interfaith Encounter Association and remarks by Father John Paul of the Tantur Ecumenical Institute. The first panel, “Religious Leaders on the Context, Impact, and Legacy of Nostra Aetate,” featured prominent voices:

Rabbi David Rosen (Special Advisor to the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi)
Qadi Muhammad Abu Obied (High Sharia Court of Appeal)
This discussion examined how Nostra Aetate reshaped theological perspectives and practical relations among faith communities.
Following a coffee break, the second panel addressed “60 Years on: Interfaith Dialogue in the Holy Land Today.” Speakers included:

The day concluded with an interactive study session, “The New Testament and Nostra Aetate in Conversation,” led by Reverend Geert de Korte, and closing reflections by Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Dov Rosen.

Participants engaged in prayer, dialogue, and shared meals, embodying the spirit of mutual respect envisioned by Nostra Aetate. The event underscored the enduring relevance of interfaith dialogue in promoting peace and understanding in the Holy Land and beyond.
