Prayer for Peace in the Tower of David

On Wednesday (28.05.25), people of different faiths gathered at the Tower of David in Jerusalem for a special interfaith prayer dedicated to the theme of “Mercy.”

The event followed an interfaith march from Zion Square to Jaffa Gate, where participants walked together in a public call for an inclusive Jerusalem — a city that is a home for all believers and traditions. Fr. Piotr represented the Vicariate during this significant march.

After the walk, the participants shared light refreshments and engaged in small group discussions, followed by a guided tour of the Tower of David Museum. The concluding prayer was led by Rabbi Tamar Elad-Appelbaum, Fr. Benny Di Bitonto, and Sheikha Ibtisam Mahmeed, symbolizing the unity and cooperation among the different faiths.

Members from the Maronite and Evangelical Churches, along with Jewish and Muslim representatives, offered heartfelt speeches. Throughout the event, hymns were sung in Hebrew, English, Arabic, and Aramaic, creating a powerful moment of shared hope and solidarity.

Together, the gathered community prayed for mercy during these challenging times marked by war, hatred, and division, seeking peace and compassion for Jerusalem and beyond.
