Sister Régine Canetti Celebrates Her 104th Birthday

On Sunday (18.05.25), the Jerusalem community gathered with great joy to mark two rare and remarkable events during the celebration of the Holy Mass: the 104th birthday of Sister Régine, and her 80th Jubilee as a nun in the Sisters of Zion congregation.

To mark this occasion, both communities of the Sisters in Jerusalem (Ein Kerem and Ecce Homo in the Old City) came together, along with other guests who love and cherish dear Régine.

At the end of the Mass, celebrated by the Patriarchal Vicar, Fr. Piotr. Fr. Benny offered a special blessing for the elderly to Régine:

God of mercy,

You who have granted these sons/daughters

the gift of long life:

Place your blessing upon them;

May they feel the sweetness and strength of your presence,

May they rejoice and be glad in your mercy

as they look to the past,

and continue in hope toward immortality

as they look to the future.

To you be praise and glory forever and ever.

“You have crowned the year with Your goodness,

and Your paths drip with abundance.”

“Who redeems your life from destruction,

Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.”

Afterward, the community priest read the papal blessing that the late Pope Francis sent to Sister Régine several months ago in honor of her 80th Jubilee.

Following the celebration of the Holy Mass, a joyful family-style celebration began in the courtyard of the community house, where everyone rejoiced together on this very special day.
