Yom HaKehilot 2024 - The Feast of St. James

On Saturday (04.05) more than two hundred members of the Hebrew Speaking Communities and friends met in Deir Rafat to celebrate the Feast of St. James. This year, for the first time The Cup of St. James was awarded to the best team in a fun tournament.

The festive Eucharist was presided over by Fr. Piotr, the Vicar of St. James, and co-celebrated by all the priests of the Communities. The liturgical music was prepared by the Community of John the Baptist, along with some members of the Tiberias and Haifa Kehila. The latter also read the readings, the prayer of the faithful, and led the offerings procession.

In his homily, Fr. Piotr emphasized the mission of St. James Vicariate, which is: "to show the entire world the meaning of the Gospel’s message: ‘You are all brothers.’” The entire homily can be read: HERE.

After the Mass, everyone was invited to share a meal. Jewish, Arab, Russian, Filipino, Indian, and Eastern-European food, brought by the members of the Communities, was shared in a joyful lunch.

This year, for the first time, all the Kehilot were invited to participate in a tournament. Fr. Benny, who hosted the event, prepared a game in which each Community had to answer quiz questions, as well as tackle sport challenges. In the end, the first winner of the St. James Cup was the Russian-Speaking Team led by Fr. Michal.

In the late afternoon, Fr. Roman and Kehilat Beer Sheva invited everyone to a prayer session as a preparation for Pentecost.

We would like to thank Ibrahim for the cotton candy, which was a huge attraction, not only for the children.

The Christian Media Center prepared a short movie about the event: HERE.
