Feast of Saint Tatiana – January 12

Saint Tatiana was one of the early Christian martyrs, tortured to death under the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus in the third century in Rome.

tatiana

Not much is known about Tatiana but it is told that she was the daughter of an important Roman official. She was secretly baptized and served in the underground church. She was arrested and her captors tried to force her to sacrifice to idols. It is told that her prayers provoked an earthquake that destroyed the statue and a part of the temple in which it stood.

Blinded, tortured and thrown to a lion that refused to eat her but rather lay at her feet, Tatiana was finally beheaded.

On her feast day, we pray for all those who still suffer for their faith.
