On the occasion of Pesach

Blessings on behalf of Saint James Vicariate

Mo‘adim lesimcha to our Jewish friends, Happy and blessed holidays to the entire Jewish people on the occasion of Passover. The Exodus from Egypt involves a variety of symbols and meanings: night of observance, exodus from slavery to freedom, rescue, eradication of the chametz (leaven) that symbolizes the purification of the evil instinct and the elimination of evil thoughts, etc. We Christians, too, in a few days, will meditate the Exodus from Egypt while celebrating the Passover of the Messiah.

For more than a year we have been dealing with a global crisis that dragged entire populations from one quarantine to the other, disconnected us from one another, and provoked an economic crisis and much distress. Passover reminds us that neither despair nor depression will be given the last word and that, despite the veil of silence we sometimes experience, God always sees His children, hears their groanings, and comes to set them free. I wish for all of us, this year, to be freed not only from the external troubles surrounding us, but also from our inner illnesses, from fear, apathy, jealousy, greed, division and all the other cables that enslave us and rob us from the ability to breathe deeply, to love one another, rejoice in life and give joy to the others. A blessed Pesach.
