Sister of Zion. Life Story. Ruth Danon

Book Soft cover 175 pages. Hebrew

A random meeting during the Six Day War, between a medical officer in the IDF and a nun in a monastery in Jerusalem, reveals a fascinating and surprising life story of a young Jewish woman whose life circumstances led her to Christianity. Sister Regine Canti was born in Bulgaria, in a well-established Jewish family. She was educated in the Sisters of Zion Monastery Shabrus, which at the time was considered one of the highest quality institutions in Bulgaria. The young girl's world turns upside down when, during the World War II, she is deported from her country, along with her family and the rest of the stateless Bulgarian Jews. In an attempt to reach a safe shore, the family puts their safety in an immigration ship called Salvador. On her way to Palestine, when the ship is wrecked in the middle of the sea, half of her family is lost in the watres. The young Regine is forced to strive for a new life in a foreign and alienated land. Her decisions from then on will lead her to a new life, to new meetings, to new countries and to her vows in a new-old religion. With a touching openness Regine is the narrator of her fascinating life as a nun in the Congregation of the "Sisters of Zion" in Israel and around the world. The story of Sister Regine's life unfolds the drama of the immigration, the relations between the Catholic Church and the Jews since the Second Vatican Council and many actual problems abd questions. This book is an absolutely fascinating story, written with a beautiful, yet not too difficult language.
