Hommage to Father Michel Remaud in Paris

Jews and Christians commemorate fr. Michel Remaud. Thierry Vernet reports from Paris.

On Sunday October 10th, at the invitation of Rabbi Rivon Krygier, the

Jewish-Christian Fellowship met for an evening in memory of Father

Michel Remaud, in the very same place where Michel Remaud had

received the Jewish-Christian Fellowship prize in October 2010.

Many were present either physically or by video-conference, at this

event with a series of interventions by friends of Michel Remaud.

In his intervention “The blind and the lame, the Midrashic pilgrimage

of Father Michel Remaud”, Rabbi Rivon Kryger opened the evening

by reminding of Michel Remaud’s incomparable contribution to the

understanding of the Gospel through the Jewish tradition which he

knew thoroughly. Father Jean Massonet then traced the course of

Michel Remaud’s life, a life dedicated to listening to the Jewish

people and tradition, for the enlightenment and enrichment of

Christians. Rabbi Alain Michel, publisher of the book:” Echos d’Israël,

réflexions d’un chrétien de Jérusalem”, completed the picture with a

few personal memories in a talk movingly entitled “Even if the voice

has become silent, the echo goes on”. Well-chosen selections from

“Echos d’Israël » were read by Stephanie Dassa: little treasures of

depth and perspicacity, filled with humor. The interventions alternated

with songs dedicated to Michel Remaud’s memory, among them a

moving “El Male Rahamim” sung for the elevation of his soul by the

cantor and choir of Adat Shalom.

Thus, in a fraternal atmosphere, those assembled could experience

once again, for an evening, something of the the humble and familiar

figure of Father Michel Remaud, whose absence is a great loss.

May his memory be a blessing.
