Blessed are those who die in the Lord

Fr. Benny presents a song composed in honor of all those who preceded us in the Kingdom of Heaven

After almost 10 years living in the Hebrew speaking catholic communities I felt the urge to compose a song in honor of the dead, because it was missing in our repertoire. I am a strong believer of the link between the earthly Church and the heavenly one and a supporter of mutual prayer between the living and the dead.

The book of Revelation (14:7.13) inspired me with the beautiful words that form the refrain and the first verse of the song. The second verse derives from the Christian tradition and I translated it from Latin. Here come the lyrics:

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on

let them find rest from their labors,

for their works accompany them.

Fear God and give him glory,

for his time has come to sit in judgment.

Worship him who made heaven and earth

and sea and springs of water.

Rest eternal grant unto them, o Lord:

and let light perpetual shine upon them.

May they rest in peace.
