Children's camps

The annual August summer camp at Our Lady Woman of Valor Pastoral Center in south Tel Aviv began on Monday, August 15, 2016 and will continue until Friday, August 19, 2016.

Since mid-July about 65 children have been attending the summer camp for children held each day under the auspices of the Saint James Vicariate for Hebrew speaking Catholics in Israel.

From Monday July 4 to Wednesday, July 13, 2016, children, youth and adults from the Hebrew speaking kehillot gathered at Deir Rafat, near Beit Shemesh for days of children’s summer camps.

Sister Agnes Tichit is a part of the team of camp counselors of the Saint James Vicariate and during the recent Easter-Passover camp, which took place in Deir Rafat from April 24 to 27, 2016, she spoke with Neta, who volunteers in the monastery kitchen.

From Sunday, April 24 until Wednesday, April 27, 2016, 90 members of the Hebrew speaking kehillot in Israel participated in a camp in at the shrine at Deir Rafat.

From Tuesday, December 8 until Thursday, December 10, 2015, 80 people from the Saint James Vicariate for Hebrew Speaking Catholics participated in a camp for children at the sanctuary of Our Lady of Palestine in Deir Rafat.

On Monday, August 31, 2015, a special celebration marked the end of the children’s summer activities in the Saint James Vicariate in Jerusalem, as the children prepare to return to school.

Michael, eight years old, a boy born to a Filipina care giver in south Tel Aviv, participated in the five day camp at Our Lady Woman of Valor, from August 17 to 21, 2015.

Those who have visited the House of Saints Simeon and Anne in Jerusalem, seat of the Saint James Vicariate and the Jerusalem kehilla, in the past months will have noticed a big change. The house is full of children.

From Sunday, December 21 until Tuesday, December 23, 2014, 55 members of the kehillot spent three days in Deir Rafat to prepare for Christmas.

Despite the Gaza War, a group of about 40 Hebrew speaking migrant children enjoyed a summer camp full of fun, joy and faith.

Due to the cancellation of the annual traditional summer camp in Beit Shemesh, Father Pior, responsible for the Jerusalem kehilla, invited twenty five of the children from the Jerusalem kehilla to an improvised camp in the Jerusalem kehilla.

Father Roman gathered together the children of his community and organized for them an improvised summer camp instead of the traditional summer camp in Beit Shemesh which was cancelled because of the situation in the country.

Due to the security situation in Israel, the planned traditional summer camp for children did not take place but instead an improvised summer camp did take place for the children from the Jaffa kehilla from July 23 to 25, 2014. Kirill reports:

For three days, from Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, until Easter Tuesday, April 22, 2014, the children of our Hebrew speaking Catholic communities gathered in the Beit Jemal monastery for three days consecrated to Easter.

On Thursday, December 5, 2013, 64 children from the Filipino community in south Tel Aviv participated in a day long camp on the last day of their Hannuka school holiday in order to prepare for Christmas.

From Monday, December 2 until Wednesday, December 4, 2013, a camp for Hebrew speaking Catholic children in Israel took place at Deir Rafat, near Beit Shemesh.
