The First Summer Camp Kaytana 2024

Journey of hope is the name of the children Keitana, that took place in Deir Rafat from the 8th to the 11th of July. Our correspondent writes about this event directly from the sanctuary of Our Lady.

Cana, Nazareth, Galilee, and Jericho were the names of the groups into which the children were divided. Interestingly, these were also the names of the places that they visited during the camp through prayers, lessons, activities, and games. Each day brought a great surprise!

Every morning, after the prayer session led by Fr. Benny and the lesson given by Fr. Igino, the groups participated in different workshops. These included the music workshop, the art atelier, the game station, and the cooking workshop. Through these activities, the children learned many things and collectively embarked on a journey of hope. They enjoyed singing, playing new instruments, creating crafts, and cooking - some of them for the first time - their own food for break time. They greatly enjoyed being together, having fun, and learning new things. But that’s not all.

Each afternoon was marked by a new activity: swimming, a game that involved all the groups, a movie during dinner, and on Tuesday, a beautiful trip to Mearat Hanetifim (Soreq Cave). Here, we discovered the beauty of nature in an ancient cave with stalactites. We walked through a beautiful path, played games, and had a lot of fun together.

At the end of each day, there was a moment of prayer in which we could thank the Lord for the graces He was bestowing upon us and also ask for forgiveness for what we didn’t do right. The food, prepared by our friend Rabba who was responsible for the kitchen, was delicious. We also ate pizza and had a wonderful barbecue on Wednesday evening. Before breakfast, there was a sports session led by Fr. Michal, with morning push-ups, squats, and jogging. On Tuesday, the Vicar of St. James, Fr. Piotr, came to visit us and greeted every child. The event concluded on Thursday with the Holy Mass celebrated by him.
