Cardinal Georges Marie Cottier OP died on March 31, 2016 in Rome at the age of 93. He was a great friend of the Jewish people and of the Hebrew speaking kehillot in Israel.

The Swiss Cardinal Georges Marie Cottier died on Thursday night at a hospital in Rome. He was 93-years-old. This philosopher and theologian of great prestige was of the order of the Dominicans and participated as an expert in the Second Vatican Council.
John Paul II appointed him as a theologian of the Papal Household in 1990. He was responsible for reviewing and monitoring the theological unity of the texts and speeches that the Pope had to sign. John Paul II made him a cardinal in 2003.
Cardinal Cottier sponsored the first dialogue between Catholics and Messianic Jews, with the support of Pope John Paul II .
