New Greek Catholic Patriarch


On June 21, 2017, the Greek Catholic synod of bishops elected Archbishop Joseph Absi as the new Patriarch of the Greek Catholic Church.

Patriarch Absi succeeds Patriarch Gregorios III Lahham, who resigned earlier this year. Absi, born in Damascus in 1946, was ordained a bishop in 2001 and has served as Patriarchal Vicar in Damascus since 2006.
