Important changes in the Latin Patriarchate


On June 14, 2017, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Apostolic Administrator of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, published a series of changes that will take effect on August 15, 2017.

Among the most important changes are the following:

1. A new patriarchal vicar has been appointed for Israel in place of Bishop Boulos Marcuzzo, who will move to Jerusalem. The new Vicar is Jordanian Father Hanna Kaldani.

2. A new head of the Beit Jala Seminary has been appointed to replace Father Jamal Khader, who will become parish priest of Ramallah. The new head of the seminary will be Father Yaacoub Rafidi.

3. A new chancellor of the Latin Patriarchate has been appointed to replace Father George Ayoub, who will travel to Rome to continue his studies in Moral Theology. The new chancellor will be Father Ibrahim Shomali, who will also head the Pastoral Office for Palestine and Israel.

4. The administrator of the Latin Patriarchate, Father Imad Twal, has been appointed parish priest in Fuheis and he will be replaced by a team headed by Archbishop Pizzaballa assisted by Mr. Sami El Yusef, presently head of the Jerusalem office of the Pontifical Mission.

5. The decision to establish a Pastoral Office has led to the naming of Father Rafiq Khoury as the director of the Office, with branches in Jerusalem and Amman, headed by Father Ibrahim Shomali and Father Ala Musharbash respectively.
