Myriam Selz : “Daughter of Jerusalem”

Sister Myriam Selz, who spent many years in Jerusalem at the service of the Hebrew speaking Catholic communities, has published an autobiographical book of interviews in French.

myriamselz1Born in a Jewish family, Myriam Selz was baptized in 1941 in order to escape the Nazis. Once the Germans left, the faith of Myriam continued to deepen. Soon, the call to religious life was heard and she took her vows as a sister in the Congregation of the Assumption in order to live a life of prayer and community and dedicate herself to the religious education of youth.

In the image of Cardinal Lustiger, Sister Myriam consecrated her life to unity and allowing Christians to discover the Jewish roots of their faith, realizing that they must love their Jewish “older brothers and sisters”.

Faithful to her people, Sister Myriam has also lived a life faithful to her religious congregation. This book, published as an interview with Bishop Jacques Perrier, follows the story of her long life. The dramatic war years, the richness of her religious life and the many encounters with various figures make a fascinating read.

The book is prefaced by Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Apostolic Administrator in Jerusalem, who worked with Sister Myriam in Jerusalem.
