“Love your neighbor as yourself”

Sister Erika, who works in the day care center at Saint Rachel Center, shared the following story.

love neighbor

It was a rainy day and I was rocking a baby to sleep and gazing out the window at the rain that was beginning to fall. I saw a taxi pull up close to the entrance to the Center. A driver, clearly a pious Muslim, got out and he unrolled his prayer mat on the street next to his parked car and began his prayers. The rain started to get a little stronger and just then a religious Jew hurried past with his umbrella over his head. He went past the Muslim, who was continuing his prayer, and then I saw him turn around, walk back to the Muslim in prayer and hold the umbrella over him until he had finished his prayer. Is this not putting the commandment “love your neighbor as yourself” into practice?
