Year of Mercy – logo

Benedetto, seminarian in the Saint James Vicariate, helps us meditate on the logo of the Year of Mercy.

Take a few moments to contemplate this picture and study its message.

- In the center, the Lord Jesus risen from the dead stands upright. His hands and feet still bear the wounds where one can see the sign of the nails. Despite this he is alive and well.

- He carries on his shoulders the human person, like the good shepherd carrying the lost sheep. This is a symbol of the participation of the Son of God in our humanity. He is incarnate in order to be like us and atone for our sins so that we might be like him.

- He comes near to us so much so that his look unites with ours (notice the shared eye in the middle) so that we might also look at the world with his look.

Everything takes place within an almond shape, a divine symbol, three concentric circles always brighter, a sign that Jesus comes to free us from the rule of darkness and bring us into the kingdom of light, a deliverance from sin and the truth of the Gospel.
