Over 70 Hebrew speaking children, from the age of 4 to 12, participated in the daily activities, aside from seven migrant children from Haifa, the rest of the children were from south Tel Aviv, the children of Filipino and Indian migrant workers and the children of Eritrean asylum seekers. Seven youth from the OLWV youth group helped the adult camp counselors in the running of the camp. The adults included Father David, responsible for the Hebrew speaking and migrant Catholics in Israel, Father Roman, responsible for the Hebrew speaking kehilla in Haifa, Father Jos, an Indian priest of the Sacred Heart of Betharram, residing in Shefamr, Father Michael, director of the OLWV Center, Vicariate seminarian, Benny, Father of Sion seminarian Tiago, the team of OLWV Center including Sisters Regina, Clarisse and Lerma, Katrin, Kirill and Ms. Bhea and her helpers.

The focus of the camp was “Being holy as God is holy”. Each day began with morning prayer and a succession of four activities for the four groups of children, organized according to age: religion classes, art, theater and games. There was a time to practice songs before the celebration of the daily mass. Mass was followed by a restful time, watching a movie. After that there was time to swim in the pools set up in the courtyard of the Center.

On Wednesday, the children set off for a day trip to the stalactite cave in Nahal Soreq. For most of the children this was a first visit to this enchanted corner. A picnic lunch was eaten at the Salesian monastery of Beit Jemal, alongside Beit Shemesh.

These are precious moments when the next generation of Catholic faithful can be introduced to the life of the Church. We thank all those who made the camp possible including the youth, the many volunteers and the Church in Need and Pontifical Mission for their ongoing support.
