Feast of Saint James in Jerusalem kehilla 2015

On Sunday, May 3, 2015, the Jerusalem kehilla celebrated the Feast of Saint James, patron of the Vicariate for Hebrew Speaking Catholics in Israel.

feast james 2015 2Father David, Patriarchal Vicar celebrated the mass but the special guest at this celebration was Greek Catholic Archbishop Yusuf Jules Zerey, Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem. A few weeks back, members of the Jerusalem kehilla had visited the Greek Catholic parish in Jerusalem on a Sunday and the Archbishop was delighted to join the kehilla for mass.

Archbishop Zerey preached the homily, focusing on the definition of faith that must produce acts of love. His opening words were words of thanks to the members of the kehillot who preserve the Jewish roots of the Church and the connection with the Scriptures. In his animated address, the Archbishop insisted on the witness we must give to the Resurrected Christ in our refusal of all that separates us from lives of holiness and self-giving. He focused especially on the devastating influence of pride.

After the mass, those present, including the numerous children, enjoyed the reception prepared by the community.
