The Return of the Wall Guardians of Jerusalem

On the Jerusalem Wall Promenade, high above the city, the Jerusalem Development Society inaugurated on October 19th the "Guardians of the Walls Are Returning" installation that breathes life into the city's guards of all religions who have come from different countries throughout the ages. The project will include about 20 life-size sculptures along the wall, symbolizing different periods.

The movie of the Christian Media Center: HERE.

At the entrance to the boardwalk, the visitor can download an app and scan the code next to each figure, then it appears on the visitor's mobile phone screen and tells him about the period in which she lived.

British soldier statue: "...the army of His Majesty the King of England, and after four hundred years of Turkish rule in the Land of Israel, the British returned to the Holy Land...

And this is an excerpt from the story of a crusader guard.

The Crusader Knight statue: ".... Templar Knight, protector of pilgrims to the holy places, defends with my life the right of everyone to pray..."

The figures, based on in-depth research, are life-size and in period clothing that reflects the reality in which they lived.

Sassi Beni, CEO of the East Jerusalem Development Company: "This project is unique and the first of its kind in Israel, and we have currently completed the first part of the project, which includes the section from Jaffa Gate to the Zion Gate area. As for the second section we are currently working on, it stretches from the Jaffa Gate to the Nablus Gate and should be completed between February and March 2023.

The first wall around Jerusalem was built in the days of the Canaanites about 4,000 years ago. As for the current wall, it was built by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent about 500 years ago. On the wall there is a path of the Ottoman Turkish guards, which is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 1989, a wide passage was breached in the wall near the Jaffa Gate on the occasion of the German Emperor Wilhelm II's visit to Jerusalem, so that he would not get off his chariot upon entering the city. The visit to the wall provides a rare and unique experience in which the views of the old and the new city are revealed.

We encountered a tourist on a boardwalk who was reciting verses from the Bible about God's love for Jerusalem. As for his opinion about the statues, he says:

Anthony, A tourist from the Netherlands: "It's beautiful, I look at the Turkish people, and it's exciting, because it says in the Bible that foreigners will build your walls and they are that man, the Turks are the ones who did it."

"Tourism in Jerusalem has recovered after the Corona period", Gurah Burger, Director of Public Relations at the East Jerusalem Development Company: "This year, more than two million and even close to three million tourists visited Jerusalem during the Jewish holidays, between the beginning of September and today, a thousand times their number compared to the corresponding period last year, when their number reached about 300 thousand. This year's data shows that about twenty-five percent of the visitors and tourists came from outside the country, inbound tourism. I think this is tourism news that is now going out from Jerusalem to the whole world: there is life after the corona virus, and there is tourism after the corona virus, and we see it happening!"

Beni Sassi, CEO of the East Jerusalem Development Company: "The Old City that holds so much history, thousands of years of history, Muslim history, Christian history and Jewish history, its area is only about one square kilometer. It has the Muslim quarter, the Christian quarter and the Jewish quarter. The wall surrounds them all, and in the end, there is One thing that connects them, it is that they all love Jerusalem, and that, in my opinion, is what the wall represents."
